WhatsApp Template Message Approval: Tips to Get Approved

Updated 9 October 2026

Before you can message a customer first on WhatsApp you need an approved template. Most approvals take minutes to a day. Rejections are usually avoidable.

Why templates get rejected

  • Wrong category. A sales message submitted as utility is likely to be rejected or re-categorised. Be honest: offers are marketing.
  • Variables without context. "{{1}} {{2}}" with no surrounding text, or a message that starts or ends with a variable.
  • Unclear sample values for the variables.
  • Misleading or prohibited content, such as regulated goods WhatsApp does not allow, or threatening wording.
  • Spelling mistakes, shouting in capitals and too many emojis.
  • Links that look suspicious, such as URL shorteners that hide the destination.

How to write one that passes

  1. Say who you are and why you are writing.
  2. Use short, plain sentences.
  3. Give each variable a clear role (name, order number, date) and a realistic sample.
  4. Add a button only if it does something useful (visit, call, reply).
  5. Pick the category that matches the main purpose.

Save time with the template store

The BulkyGrow template store has templates written to the usual rules. Edit the words, add your image and submit. You can see the status in the same screen.

If a template is rejected

Read the reason, change the wording, and resubmit. Do not submit the same text many times, because repeated rejections can slow approval.
